Watercolor play!!!

20130130-153542.jpg Aiden is still home sick from school today (day three) and I'm starting to have painting withdrawals since I haven't been able to go to my studio since last week. The only paint I have left here at home is my watercolors, so I'm taking being stuck here at home as a sign that it's time to start exploring working with them (which I've been wanting to do any way, but haven't taken the time).

I'm using one of the barely used journals I have (I keep trying to do the "art journaling" thing, but it just never seems to gel for me....I'm more of a sketcher when it comes to journaling). It has heavy weight double sized paper that works for wet media, so I was hoping it would work for this little experiment...and it did! Can't wait to try this on the couple of pieces of watercolor paper I found this morning that missed getting moved to the studio. :)

I've also been brainstorming ideas for my next paintings as well as what my next painting class will be at my studio (in Portland, OR). I'm planning it for the evening of March 8th (which is a Friday) and I'm going to teach an abstract background with a whimsical tree for this next one. What do y'all think?

Book projects + commissions + icky sickies

gosh where has the last week gone! lol! its been jam packed! some fun...some not so fun. here's some pics from the last week...

my son read the book house of mirrors from the ulysses moore book series and created a scene from the book in diorama format. you can get the book on amazon by clicking this link > Ulysses Moore #3: House of Mirrors

we got branches off trees in the backyard and created trees out of them by crumpling & compressing aluminum foil around the bottom of the branch and painting it brown. many of the other elements were cut out of cardboard and aiden drew on the other elements from the scene in the book.

the crane from the book that was supposed to demolish the house. the name of the demo company was something to do with cyclops...hence the one eye

i worked on getting some collage backgrounds done on some small watercolor paper pieces (4"x4") last week...

along with working on a commission painting for a lovely customer (this is just a cropped detail of the painting, which is still in progress).

and now today (and yesterday too), the kiddo is home sick from school. trying to keep him resting is NO small feat! even when he's sick, he's a busy guy! i couldn't keep him on the couch....he kept moving from couch, to chair, to floor. this boy let me tell ya!!! he doesn't stop goin' unless he has a high fever! makes it quite hard for his body to get well quickly since he has such trouble resting. so that's what's up with me this week. my class at my studio went great and i have some pics, but haven't downloaded them to my computer yet....so i'll have to leave that for another post later in the week once the kiddo is back at school. :)

oh and p.s.....there are a few new prints in the shop that i managed to work on while being here at home with my sick little man. so please go check them out at the link below: http://pauletteinsall.storenvy.com/

Lots of new paintings!!!

Lots of new paintings being created in my new studio these days! Many sold before I was able to get over here to post them (some of my fabulous Facebook friends snatched 'em up), but the round ornament is still available to purchase as of right now and also the two birds on canvas at the end of this post will be available after the workshop I'm teaching next week. The first pic is a commission painting in progress. And now for the pics... 20130118-181248.jpg

20130118-181816.jpg Whew! Sorry for the image heavy post, but there was a lot of catching up to do. The last pic was a sketch I did this week while sketching at a a coffeeshop with a new artist friend. I SO have to do that more often! I had been stuck on a couple of paintings, but when I returned to the studio everything just "clicked".

Won't be able to get back to the studio 'til Tuesday since the kiddo doesn't have school on Monday. So it's a nice long weekend for us! I plan to start back posting here at least once a week (usually with new paintings for sale since I am now getting regular dedicated focused studio time each week) , so I hope you'll stop by regularly. :)  And be sure to keep a check on my online store for new prints I'll be adding this coming week. xoxo

I'm participating in Paint Party Friday this week :)

Recent drawings + books display

20121210-124649.jpg One of the pics I took at our open house yesterday at the studio. Had this little table set up in my area to display the books I've been featured in along with the original artwork + some pieces in progress & my most recent drawings.

It was a great time and we had lots of lovely people attend! Hoping to have another one around Valentines Day, so if you missed this one you'll have another opportunity to come visit soon! xoxo
